5 Reasons why I chose to stay in Cebu, Philippines

In this country full of “let’s go to manila, all the opportunity is there”, “we will not be happy or rich if we stay here in cebu” or “let’s a start a new life in manila”, I am the one who will say “I have reasons why I will stay in Cebu”.

While it is true that lots of opportunity is available elsewhere, you cannot just stay and wait for opportunity to come. You have to create it yourself, or create network that will help you get one. That is why I have a lot of faith in Cebu. The following are my reasons.

1. Cost of Living is less

If you’re coming from other country, you might find that living in Philippines is very cheap. Well, that’s third world country expenses for you. Nonetheless, even if you’re a local or foreigner – let me just tell you this: A luxury villa resort in Cebu will cost you around $50-$80 only. That is a luxury accommodation with free pick-up in airport, private pool, high end interiors and furniture, Jacuzzi, sauna, spa and many more. Living like a royal family for just $50-$80. Do you know how much it will cost you in Manila? At least $150.

Take this another for example: 8 mbps internet connection in Cebu will cost you $33, the same cost in Manila will get you a whopping 3 mbps internet connection.  That is just to cite the significant differences on the cost of living in both cities.

2. Rich culture and history

Where do I start? Let me start by saying this: Cebu is the home of the very first Filipino Hero and Cebu is the oldest city in the country. With just that you can already feel how much history Cebu holds.

Cebu’s religious culture is diverse. It is home of Christians, Muslims, Taoists, Buddhists and many more. They all live in harmony and is building a greater city. A foundation every City should follow one might suggest. In here you will find different historical religious sites like: Cebu Taoist Temple, Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral Church, The Green Mosque and many more.

Pieces of history such as the Yap Sandiego Ancestral house, shrines of Lapu-Lapu and Magellan, Cebu Heritage Monument and many more are one of the facts that Cebu have such deep History into its roots.

3. Big Opportunities

Well, you might be thinking how come opportunities? Given that Manila offers better opportunity, given that you are well educated or hard working, but you see – there’s a reason why Cebu is called Queen City of the South and I bet you do not know about it.

Cebu is not called the Queen City of the South just because of its land mass. It is called Queen because of its big economic potential. Yes, Cebu’s potential is still yet to be realized and exploited. While Cebu is the oldest city, it is still not ripe. That is why opportunities here might be hard, but the future is bright. You can be the next Henry Sy here in Cebu with the right amount of hard work and grit.

Moreover, numerous firms and real estate developers are starting to expand in Cebu. It’s like the fruit is finally starting to ripe.

4. Stunning & Exciting beaches

Did I already told you about how great and exciting the beaches here? One might wonder how come Cebu is just starting to get fame when these pieces of Nature has been there for hundreds of years now.

These are the following beaches that are considered to be the go-to ones:

  • Bounty Beach – famous for thresher shark dives
  • Paradise Beach – located in an secluded area that is why being private here is guaranteed
  • Sumilon Island – famous for their sandbanks and is also near to Oslob ( swim with whale sharks )
  • Santiagio Bay – crystal clear beach that has a glamour look
  • Bakhaw Beach –a less crowded beach to chill out and get intimate with your loved one
  • Tingko Beach – a very popular place for the locals for this is affordable and accessible easily

Aside from the aforementioned beaches, Cebu tons of stunning beaches that is yet to be discovered.

5. Adrenaline rush adventures

A swim with the whale sharks is an activity that an adrenaline seeker traveler will not pass on. This is just both a surreal and scary activity, exactly what they are looking for.

Canyoneering an exciting, fun and tiring adventure in the south. It is where you will be engaging in such activities as rappelling, rafting, and waterfall jumping. Most often than not, you will jump in Kawasan Falls.
Millions of people are coming in Cebu to witness the biggest festival celebration in the country, The Sinulog Festival. It is where they honour of the miraculous image of Sto. Nino.

These are the 3 main reasons why Cebu is the Queen of the Philippines and not just because of its economic potential.  Aside from these 3, there are lots of things Cebuanos are proud of. Their local delicacies, communities and universities and colleges are one of the best also.

Many of us have different reasons why we live where we are living. At the same time, many of us have reason why we are leaving. Let me just tell you that your social status is not the fault of your location but if you stayed that way, then it will be your fault.
